Rite in the Rain All weather pen, touch pencil and notebook review
What Rite in the Rain say:
Our 3" x 5" Top-Spiral Notebook is small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket and tough enough to survive any of Mother Nature's onslaughts. This scrappy pocket notebook will survive sweat, rain, mud, snow, oil, grease, and the wear-and-tear of daily use in your pocket. Impact-resistant Wire-O binding won't lose its shape in your back pocket, and a PolyDura cover defends your notes from scratches and stains.
Pencils will work great on Rite in the Rain but sometimes you just need a pen. This All-Weather Metal Pen writes on wet paper and upside down, the pressurized ink cartridge performs in temperatures from -30F to 250F. The ink won't leak, evaporate or blow up in your pocket! 5 1/4" long, with a Barrel Diameter of 3/8". Black ink.
Do you like pencils but fear they will break when it matters most? You're not alone. A Rite in the Rain Mechanical Pencil may well be the last pencil you'll ever need to buy. True to the Rite in the Rain brand, this pencil is tough, reliable, made in the USA, and writes no matter what.

This isn’t going to be like a usual review commenting on how the notebook performs instead it will be an artistic piece (If you want to call it that) where I have several observational drawings matched with photographs from my recent week in North Wales baring the worst of the conditions and continued to use this little waterproof notebook during shots on the camera.
As you will see from the photographs and use of waterproofs it was very wet so the photos themselves can say more about how well the Rite in the Rain notebook, pen and pencil performed, rather me saying it all in writing.
Baring that in mind, the notebook is a great little size and is smaller than most smart phones so fits nicely inside jacket or trouser pockets with ease.
The pencil graphite is very strong and I have yet to snap any of the supplied sticks but in case you do happen to snap one, spares are kept inside the pencil below the rubber which has to be pulled off with some force and very unlikely to come off on it’s own. The pen is much like most other pens and you simple unscrew the end to access the cartridge inside.
To push the graphite back inside the pencil you have to remove the end and push the graphite down on a secure object which is a little annoying if you accidentally push to much out.
The notebook front cover shows various measurements and scales from what inches are to foot, yards etc or map scales from 1:10,000 and 1:25:000 and on the back cover is a handy 11cm / 4.5 inches ruler and below is the key statement of Rite in the Rain: “Yes, Rite in the Rain is a wood-based & recyclable paper, but unlike plain paper; it won’t turn to mush when exposed to rain, sweat, grease or accidentally laundering”.
So far this has been true with my notebook and rain and mud has been a pain for myself rather than trying to draw observations and notes in the book and have had no issues with the either the pen or pencil working in cold, warm or wet conditions.
With it’s overall size and quality the notebook and pens have remained in my bag whether on hikes, wild camps or just in the office for work. It’s a the perfect size for quick notes and observations and as I mentioned already it’s overall size and weight means their is little excuse not to pack it as it’s so small and flexible to use.
